Every business has a story, and ours is no different. Buckenham Locksmiths was founded in 1959 by Arthur George Buckenham. Arthur originally worked for a hardware store, but one morning when he arrived for work, to his disbelief the bailiffs had closed the shop. Arthur spoke to the bailiffs to ask what was going on and also told them that he hadn't been paid his wages. The bailiffs allowed him to take 1 item for him to make his way, and he took one Yale hand cutting key machine.

Arthur rented a shop on Gillespie Road and Buckenham Locksmiths was born. At the beginning  Arthur started by cutting a few keys, repairing oil heaters, replacing sash window cords, scissor sharpening and lock fitting.

 

In 1970 Jen & Don (Arthur's Daughter & Son in -law) joined the business, who are still working and running the shop to this day. Don became a car lock and key specialist, with many local garages and car dealerships using our service.

In 1993 Helen (Jen & Dons Daughter) joined the business as a bookkeeper and best tea maker.

You can still find her in the shop most days.

Don became one of the first people in the UK to purchase a car programming machine to program the modern car keys with transponder chips. 

​

In 2002 as the business grew bigger with more stock and staff, we relocated to 158b Blackstock Road, where we were located until 2023. 

​

In 2012 Jack (Helens Son) joined the business making him the 4th generation of Buckenham Locksmiths. Since his arrival he has modernised the shop by bringing in the latest computerised machinery and becoming the UK's main distributor of Wendt German Locksmithing tools.

In 2022 we had the most incredible opportunity to make an advert with Arsenal Football Club, featuring Arsenal & England Womans Captain Leah Williamson and Arsenal & Premier League Hall of Famer Tony Adams. The advert was shared on social media as well as shown at the Womans North London Derby match at the Emirates Stadium. You can view the advert by clicking HERE.
